When I was young, my mother would often say "play with Anansi" when I approached her with a competitive game. The point was to be imaginative and put myself in the shoes of an imaginary opponent. Of course, this opponent was none other than myself. In skateboarding, there's no such thing as outside competition, and it is all about self-growth. Anansi represents the journey of self-discovery. I grew up a minority in my community and spent a lot of time turning away from my foreign background. I've learned to embrace this part of me and reflect it while sharing my love for skateboarding.
